1st Day in Germany, München 03.06.2010

We arrived Munchen Airport at about 5.30am. I began our warm up photo shots :) Say cheese!!!
We took the train to Hauptbanhof Station(Central) where Euro Youth Hotel is located.
On our way in the train, prof distributed our train tickets and allowance of 400 euros :D Wow!!! Look at how happy yongwei is :P
We arrived at our station and walk about 5 mins or so to our hotel.
Oops, prof is waiting for me to faster get it :P While waiting for prof to settle the administration, we started our photo shoots again :)
After leaving our luggages at a storeroom at the basement, we were given free time to roam about. It was about 7.30am in Germany, and we were only supposed to meet back at 1.30pm, so we decided to do some sightseeing on our own. Moreover, the hotel serves their breakfast at 8am only. I am not very sure what are the buildings that we took picture with, but they look nice.
We went back halfway to change our outer coat because it was drizzling and cold. By the time we reached back the hotel, breakfast was ready so we decided to have our delicious buffet before setting off for our round 2 of exploring. There was different kinds of ham, cheese, bread and spreads. Cornflakes and the usual beverages are served as well. The food that catches my eyes was the hard-boiled egg. It was painted in Germany's flag colour, though it tasted so-so only.
Round 2 start!!! We aimlessly walked to Karlplatz station, the next stop to ours. The entrance at the back of the picture is one of the main gates to the central area.
I was kind of fascinated with the trams in Germany, I think it is really cool :)
Some of my random shots, I like the one with my maple leave especially, and of course, thanks to the 2 beauties in my picture too :) Sneaky looking Yongwei, wondering what is in her mind...hmmm.... :P
We walked along the street and came across this church. The door was actually locked at first, but a nun came to open the door for us as she saw us peeping in :) We were to lucky to be the 1st to enter and view the church. It was very unique compared to Singapore's.
Some of the interesting pictures I capture, hehe, really random and 'bo liao' :P But hope it is kinda entertaining...
And more of the silly things we do...
Taking photo with the bus when the bus driver is missing :P HEHE...faster take, faster take!!!
Liew Sing asked the policeman in the car for permission, and when the GREEN light was given, look here, SMILE :D
We went on wandering around, taking photos of interesting building and also the beautiful things that capture our eyes. We enjoyed our stroll alot as the weather was very cooling, although it was drizzling...
We arrived at the heart of Marienplatz where the Mary's square and New City Hall (Neues Rathaus) are. It was really crowded on this day as I heard it was some catholic event, everyone was rushing to church. I like their umbrellas as most of them carry a black one or a rainbow umbrella. It looks either very solemn or lively. I was amused at the amount of people that brought their dogs with them, it was really nice to see so much going on around us.
Hehe, our sneaky camera girl...with full focus :D

Hehe :P See the resemblance between us and the logo? 3 guys trying to mimick the statues but...hehe, better not say, later kena bash up, hehe :P
These pictures are taken at the entrance of the shopping district. It is at the station called Karlsplatz. At this place, we saw 4-5 H& M stores, it is something like cotton on in Singapore.

We headed back at around 1pm in order to purchase the prepaid cards in case we got lost, haha, ya rite :P While searching for the stop at the train station, we went to enquire some information about our concession card. Luckily, the lady at the counter is able to speak alittle english.
The left pic is taken by shi hua, hehe, trying to make us look confused with our directions :) The right pic is taken with the trains that travel all over Germany, like to Hamburg and the others.
We went back to the hotel to gather at 1.30pm. Our prof was there with another lady to bring us for our city tour. Surprisingly, they brought us back to where we were previously, Marienplatz, but this time round, we took the train and alighted 2 stops later, haha :D Interesting... We met our guide at the town hall, where it is known as the central base of Munich. This area is known as the holy district as well, that explains the number of churches found within the area.
The place was even much more crowded at this time, with more people heading to their churches. We seek shelter in the town hall while the guide gave us a brief introduction to Munich. Later, we walked to St Peter's church, known for being the oldest and highest point. It was really impressive inside...and it was really nice to keep dry in it too, hehe.
We moved over to the bier garden, yup, that is how they spell the word "beer". We were introduced to the 6 local beers in Munich and also the festival "Oktofest". The guide also gave us pretty good information of the Bavarians' lifestyle. The people enjoy to meet and chat over cups of beer at the bier garden whenever possible, it is really nice to, as the weather is cooling.
We were brought to another church and other sight seeing spots. I was pretty amused with the statue of Juliet as it was told to us that guys can go to her for help when they are in trouble with love. Hehe, here comes the interesting part...they can either give her roses to ask for help or...did u notice that her left breast is of a different shade of colour? Haha, yup, or you can rub it and ask for help too, haha :D
We went to the bier house, it was very crowded, really popular with the people there. It carries the brand, HB, Hofbrauhaus.

Dropped by this area, i think it is called schuhbeck...
A church that is on fire...
The king's statue outside the Residenz museum, with the King's son (King Ludwig I or is it II, haha) looking out of the window...This is where the Opera house is as well.
Saw this interesting building covered with "vegetation"... and a super huge door!
We went to this statue, and the story that was told to us went like this...The King's son fell in love with a "Spanish" dancer, who was actually a bad girl, smokes and doesn't have a good image. One day, a student wrote some nasty words on the wall. Hence, the royalties wondered who wrote these words, and was searching for him. The student confessed. Hehe, i can't really remember the rest of the story but I know that he was holding onto the statue's nose and got rich after that, hence, it is a MUST to touch it when u pass by, unless...you don't want to be rich...who wouldn't right? Haha...
Soon, we came to the end of the tour and was given free time after that. Most of the people in the group wanted to head back and settle down in their rooms but we didn't because Liew Sing said it was a MUST to try their pork knuckles at the famous beer house we went just now, so we did and we enjoyed our meal alot :) Partly, it was also because we didn't have our lunch as we didn't know whether it was provided, hehe...got allowance and still want our meals to be provided, hehe, so greedy right? No la, we are just "sua gu"(blur) lor.

Here are some photos of our dinner....I bet u are drooling while seeing them :P

pork knuckles sausage with radish sides
Hehe, we girls, went out to get ourselves some supper while the guys are resting le, haha :P
Chicken wrap (3.50 euros) Choco Milk Pizza (3.50-4 euro)

That's all for Day 1, good night everyone :) yawns...zzZZZ...
